CANDIS ANN McBAIN

Posted: August 27th, 2012

February 26, 1913 – August 23, 2012
Family and friends are grieving the passing of CANDIS ANN McBAIN. She was known by many of her friends as “KAY”. She passed away peacefully in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital after a short illness with family and friends at her side. Candis was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold McBain; and her step-son, Byard McBain. She was, as well, predeceased by one sister and five brothers. Candis is survived by three daughters, Margorie Dunlop (John), Parksville BC, Dixie Bullock, Edmonton and Kenolynn VanBakel (John), Victoria BC. She has two step sons, John McBain, Medicine Hat and Donald (Marilyn) McBain, Ontario. She leaves several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and four great grandchildren. We know the Lord will welcome her with open arms into the “Kingdom of God”. Candis Ann McBain was a kind and generous Mother to her family and as well to her friends. She cared for and assisted many. She was a superb seamstress. She made her daughters’ wedding gowns and many attendants gowns. Her ability with her sewing machine was unequaled. She taught Fabrics and Dress at the Medicine College for over 20 years. Candis enjoyed writing and had the ability of expression and penmanship in her writing that was extraordinary. One of the most gratifying achievements of her life was to attain the position of “Worthy Grand Matron” of the Order of the Eastern Star”. This was an accomplishment that very few ever realize. She taught her family to be clean, kind, compassionate and most of all to love the “Lord”. Her smile, warm qualities and love will be missed and never forgotten. Her enduring legacy is the love she gave to so many and all those that loved her back. “Life is not waiting out the storm, it is learning to dance in the rain”. “Live life to the fullest, cherish those you love and never count the cost”. Cremation will take place. A family graveside service is planned for the spring 2013 in Red Deer, at the burial site of her Mother and Brothers. This was the wish of Candis McBain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Murray Chapter #58 “The Order Of The Eastern Star”, c/o Page Pinder, Secretary, 56 Cunliffe Cres. SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta TIA IK6 or to the “Charity of your choice”. Arrangements are entrusted to SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL AND CREMATORIUM, “The Chapel in the Park”, locally owned and directed. 1. Carol Chisholm says:

    Kay McBain family,
So sorry to hear of Kays passing but what a life she had! If we could all live as long as she did and do as much good as she did, WOW!! Kay was a friend for may years to my parents Bruce & Hazel McKenzie. Her sewing abilities were sewn into my wedding dress as well. The wonderful memories you have of Kay will give you strength in the days ahead.

  2. Terrie Brucker says:

Hi, Kenny. Marjorie and Dixie, so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful person and I am happy that I met her. A mother is hard to lose, but she isn’t really lost, she will be in your hearts forever. I know, my mom still ‘shows up’ in spirit every time I bake bread! We are all blessed with great mother memories and that’s what life’s all about.
    Terrie
