ANDERSON Richard

RICHARD FRANK (DICK) ANDERSON, passed away on August 29, 2012, in Raymond, Alberta, at the age of 62. He will be greatly missed by his wife of thirty-nine years, Janice Nelson Anderson, his children: Terra (Jared) Christensen, Brandi (Bob) Wright, Robyn (Scott) Evanson, Tiffany (Alex) Mosaico, Chelsa (Paul) Fisher, and Jordan (Diana) Anderson; and his twelve beautiful grandchildren: Terrell, Hannah, Brittana, Rachel, James, Paris, Chase, Ivy, Sarah Beth, Megan, Caleb, and Winston. Dick will also be greatly missed by his mother, Vesta Williams Anderson; his siblings, Ted (Bev) Anderson and Lori (Len) Hatch; his brother-and-sister-in-law, Darrel and Marsha Nelson, and many extended family members and friends. Dick was predeceased by his father, Frank Garner Anderson, and his in-laws, Grover & Laura Nelson.
While growing up in Raymond, Dick learned to enjoy life to the fullest. Following his graduation from high school, he served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Texas. Shortly after his return to Raymond, he caught the attention of a young lady in town who took note of his newly acquired Texas drawl and cowboy boots. Even though he was juggling college classes, along with two part-time jobs, he still found sufficient time to court her.
Two years later, in 1973, Dick and Janice were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Shortly afterward, Dick pursued a career in banking that lasted for over thirty-five years. His job took his family to many different locations in Alberta, as well as Inuvik, NWT.
Dick and Janice discovered that job transfers and new babies often seemed to come together. Some of his greatest joys in life have been his precious children and grandchildren.
As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dick served in seven different bishoprics, including his call as branch president in Lloydminster, Alberta. His greatest love in the Church, though, was working with the youth.
As a person with many interests and talents, Dick enjoyed a wide variety of activities. He loved camping, fishing, hiking, golfing, and just being with his family. He helped to build two houses, and his children were convinced that he could fix almost anything.
On occasion he stated that he felt he had not excelled in any one area. But he was wrong. Dick excelled in people. He loved them and they loved him. The last years of his life will attest to this fact. In his three-year battle with cancer, a steady stream of family and friends came to pay a special tribute to him. He would want us to express his gratitude for all the love that was poured back to him in so many ways.
Friends may meet with the family at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Garden Place Chapel, in Magrath, on Friday, August 31, 2012, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., or on Saturday, prior to the service, from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Garden Place Chapel, in Magrath. Interment will follow at the Magrath Cemetery.
