BABCOCK

Douglas Stuart Babcock formerly of Redcliff, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012, at the age of 91 years, beloved husband of Hazel Babcock. He also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Peter Babcock of Finch, Ontario and Doris (Wayne) Anderson of Penticton, B.C.; three stepchildren, Tina (Al) Milley of Redcliff, Wayne (Doris) Anderson of Penticton, B.C., Gene (Lorraine) Anderson of Nelson, B.C.; twelve grandchildren, Connie (Doc) Lang, Kristina Babcock, Julie (Kevin) Joustra, Shawn Babcock, Jake Anderson, Tammy Anderson, Dawn Anderson, Michelle (Tyson) Ksenych, Jeff Anderson, Keri (Kier) Jenkins, Mike (Sharlene) Anderson and Jesse (Rob) Squires; twenty great grandchildren; his half brothers, Jack (Theresa) Babcock of Inveray, Ontario and Jim (Anne) Babcock of Bath, Ontario; one sister-in-law, Rhoda Babcock of Kingston; Hazel’s extended family: Hettie Hastings-Kite, Copper Hastings, Julian and Jaki Kite all of England. He was predeceased by his parents Ida and Stuart Babcock, his first wife, Margaret; two daughters, Caroline Neratko and Velma Babcock; his daughter-in-law, Lynda Babcock; a stepson, Greg (Izzie) Anderson and two brothers, Vernon and Len (Kay). Doug was born on November 17, 1920 near Kingston, Ontario where he was raised. Following his schooling he married Margaret McLaren and then served in WWII. Upon his honourable discharge he returned to the Syndenham area and began farming. In 1955 he moved his family to Moorewood, Ontario. Margaret passed away in 1964, however Doug continued to farm there until 1968. He then moved to Cranbrook, B.C. where he met Hazel Anderson and they were married on July 4, 1970, in Medicine Hat. Together they lived at Canal Flats, then Vavenby, B.C. where Doug had a contracting business. In 1982 they moved to Redcliff where Dougcontinued in the construction industry and Doug along with Hazel set strong roots in their community. They were committed to the well being of Redcliff by being extensively involved at the Redcliff Legion as well as the Redcliff Seniors Centre, their dedication to their community was evident in so many ways it is hard to mention them all. Doug was known for his love of dancing, his sense of humor, the wonderful garden he created with Hazel and of course his willingness to make the community they lived in a better place. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Officers and members of the Redcliff Legion, Branch #6 will conduct a poppy service for their departed comrade. Interment will follow in the Veteran’s Section of Redcliff Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, P.O.
