PRATT Bessie
Posted: September 5th, 2012BESSIE ADA PRATT (Witbeck) passed away in the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the age of 98. She was born on November 6, 1913 and in 2 months would be celebrating her 99th birthday. Bessie’s youth was spent in Raymond and her adult years in Lethbridge.
Her husband Thomas Wm. Pratt predeceased her in 1997 and her son “Tommy” passed away in 1995. She leaves behind three daughters: Evelyn Joan (Grant) Pilling of Calgary, Sharon Lynne (Don) Miner of American Fork, Utah, and Judy Lee (Duane) Fletcher of Post Falls, Idaho, as well as one brother Brownie Witbeck of Raymond and one sister Dixie (John) Pratt of Lethbridge. Bessie’s rich heritage of four children, 13 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 14 great, great grandchildren have been very fortunate and blessed to have a living grandmother for all these years. Not too long ago, she could have named all 67.
Bessie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For 39 years she served in Ward and Stake Relief Societies as a president, a councillor or a teacher. She spent many, many hours visiting those who were struggling in their families with sickness, who needed a shoulder to cry on or who just needed a friend. She loved to serve others.
Her husband Tom was a devoted Scouter in Lethbridge and she supported him in his scouting responsibilities. For 55 years, she obeyed the scout motto to “Be Prepared” and be prepared she was. In addition to her church responsibilities, she also served a secretary to the scouts and made hundreds of pies and popcorn balls to raise money to help many boys go to scout camps.
Bessie loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She lived her life as a worthy ambassador of Him and her reunion with Him and her family truly is a joyous event. We will miss her dearly, but are proud to be of her posterity. She is our example of the life we should live.
The family would like to thank all of those and the 5th floor G.A.R.U. Unit of the Regional Hospital for the kindness and attention they gave to her during her 6 week stay in the hospital.
