Mrs. Elizabeth Betty Stegen, beloved wife of Mr. Howard Stegen of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, September 7th, 2012 at the age of 71 years. Betty also leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Joyce Peet of Medicine Hat; four children, John (Charmaine) Peet of Medicine Hat, Robert (Ann) Peet of Spruce Grove, Connie Stegen and Vikkii Stegen, both of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Katrina, Corey, Deanna, Jessica and Tristin; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gilbert (Elaine) Peet, Robert (Lynn) Peet and David Peet; one sister, Gladys (Ted) Lemperger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her father, Charles Peet. Betty was born on July 9th, 1941 in Edson, Alberta, where she was raised and educated. She moved to Calgary in 1963 where she met Howard Stegen and they were married in 1970. In 1975, Betty and Howard moved to Iddesleigh, Alberta, where she was a member of the Iddesleigh Church Ladies Aid. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1990, where they have remained ever since. In her younger years, Betty was in the Air Force. She enjoyed many hobbies including, crocheting, genealogy and painting, where she participated in many painting classes and eventually became an art teacher. Betty loved her family; they were very important to her and will miss her greatly. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Wednesday, September 12th, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, September 13th, 2012 from 12:30 to 1:25 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, on Thursday, September 13th, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. with The Reverend Barrett Scheske officiating. Memorial gifts in Bettys memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Medicine Hat & District Chapter, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 8M4 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 102 – 1865 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1Z8.
