He is also survived by his sister Rose (Phil) Mitchell of Sorrento, BC; sister Jeanne (Ed) Kingston of Mirror, AB; brother Jean-Paul (Jan) Canuel of Calahoo, AB; sister Pauline (Randy) Jones of McLennan, AB; sister Colette (Morley) Sych of Calmar, AB; brother Marcel (Chantal) Canuel of Laval, PQ; brother Roger Canuel of McLennan, AB; brother Michel Canuel of Gibbons, AB; sister-in-law Chris Haydon of Calgary, sister-in-law Colleen (Rick) Penner of Claresholm and brother-in-law Joe (Carol) Izsak of Lethbridge; along with many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Norm was born in McLennan, Alberta to Alfred and Claircy (Boucher) Canuel. Norm’s family travelled much in his formative years, following his father’s career as a school teacher. In 1969, Norm enrolled at N.A.I.T. in Edmonton in the Civil Engineering Technology program to pursue a career in Structural Design and Construction. In 1973 he moved to Claresholm to begin a 34 year career with Trus Joist. He held various positions in Quality Assurance, Engineering, and as the Plant Technical Director.  On April 2, 1977 he married Patricia Ann Hubka, daughter of Rosella (O’Kane) and Robert Hubka of Carmangay, AB. They settled in Claresholm where they raised four kids. Norm was involved in the community with the Active 20/30 Club, the Claresholm Curling Club, and the Scouts. He was a dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Parish, holding positions on Parish Counsel and within the Knights of Columbus, Counsel No. 7135.  Dad loved being outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He truly enjoyed being home on his acreage having time and space to pursue his hobbies of gardening, home renovations, ham radio, automotives, and various other projects. Dad was self-taught on many things; he loved the challenge of figuring something out and would always be researching something new.  Family was extremely important to Dad, and this showed in the value he placed on family time and the pride he took in teaching his kids numerous skills. We loved him for his attention to detail, sense of humor, loving nature, and zest for life. The family would like to thank the staff at Claresholm General Hospital, Home Care, Foothills Medical Centre and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their dedicated support and care for Norm. A very special thanks to Dr. Gish.  Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Christ the King Catholic Church (344 – 50th Avenue, Claresholm) on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 7:00 P.M.
