RUSSELL John

Nov. 22, 1920 – Sept. 16, 2012  Passed over to his heavenly home Sunday Sept. 16, 2012 at Crowsnest Long Term Care John Emerson Russell of Coleman.

He is survived by his children; Robin(Pam) Ingram, April (Dwight) Russill, Jill (Richard) Wlosek, Kevin (Dixie) Ingram, Rory (Shelley) Ingram, Sean (Linda) Ingram, Sandy (Mernie) Russell, and Erin (Robert) White; fourteen grandchildren; Robyn, Rhena, Ryan, Benn, Angie, Ashley, Cole, Seamus, Seanade, Liam, Carly, Emily, Holly, Hannah and eight great grands. He is also survived by his wife Marjorie of Lethbridge, his sister Hazel Amell of Cornwall Ont. as well as numerous Nieces and Nephews, Marjorie‚s son’s Bill and John Malcolm and their families of Lethbridge, and his children’s‚ mother Muriel Shepherd also of Lethbridge.  John was born at Harrisons Corners, Ontario on November 22, 1920 to Janet and Laurence Russell. He grew up with sisters Cecelia and Evelyn and brothers Bruce and Lorne, all since deceased. John joined the Canadian Army in 1940 and served gallantly for over five years participating in the Dieppe raid. Following discharge in 1945, John came to Coleman Alberta with his cousin Edgar Amell, where both worked in the mines. In 1950, John rejoined the Canadian Army (Lord Strathcona) and served in the Korean Campaign until 1952. On return to Ontario, he began work on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Following this, he returned to Alberta in 1958 and worked in Calgary for two years. In 1960, he returned to Coleman and gained employment with the Coleman Trucking Company at the International mine till retirement.  Always a proud Canadian he was equally proud to be a citizen of Alberta. Funeral service Friday September 21 at Coleman Christian Assembly church In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes association or the Canadian Legion, Branch 9 Coleman, AB.
