Posted: October 3rd, 2012MR. ROBERT MICHAEL “MICK” PORTER of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Ellenor Porter, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the age of 91 years.
Mick was born in Cowley, AB on May 23, 1921. He grew up on the family ranch north of Lundbreck. He attended school in Cowley and graduated from St. Michael’s Catholic School in Pincher Creek. Mick joined the RCAF during World War II and served as an Armament training officer in Calgary and Edmonton. In 1944 Mick married Ellenor Christoffersen in Olds, AB. Mick worked as a grain buyer with Alberta Pacific Grain in Warner. He later went to work at the McIntyre Ranch for 5 years. From 1953 onwards, he farmed six and a half sections in the Skiff area, and retired in 1984. Mick was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Air Force Association 702 Wing; member of the Lethbridge Elks, the Army Navy Air Force Association, Legion Housing Association and Poppy Campaign. Mick was an active volunteer in the community. Besides his beloved wife Ellenor, Mick is survived by his daughter Lawna (Don) Robart of Calgary; sons Michael Porter of Calgary and Ronald Porter of Calgary, daughter Karen Porter of Calgary and; grandson Hugh (Jackie) Porter; great-grandchildren Damon Paul, Jacob Christopher, Tristan Alyssa; sister Connie Johnson of Lethbridge, sister-in-law Karma Porter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Mick was predeceased by an infant son Christopher; 9 sisters, and 3 brothers. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Major Glen Habkirk officiating.
