GOEHRING

The family of Lydia Goehring announces with joy and sadness that on November 30, 2012, Lydia went to be with her Lord and Savior. Lydia was born in Surprise, Saskatchewan on January 29, 1917 to Emanuel and Louisa Boettcher, the eldest of four children. She attended GreenCorn school until grade 6, then due to her mothers death she stayed home to care for her siblings. Lydia married John Goehring in 1939. They resided on the farm near Schuler in the Rose Glen district. They grew live stock and planted grain. Lydia and John had six children. In 1955 Lydia was widowed and left to raise the children. She labored intensely on the farm, milking cows, feeding chickens and slopping hogs. She spent hours sewing clothes and mending socks for her family by the light of a kerosine lamp. Lydia always had a garden, growing potatoes and vegetables for the winter months. She canned fruit in summer, picking Saskatoon berries to preserve. She would sell the cream that she got from milking the cows to add to the families income. In 1973, Lydia moved from the farm to Medicine Hat where she was able to have a large garden with an apple tree in her back yard. She loved gardening and could grow almost anything including African Violets, for which she won prizes at the local fair. Lydia taught herself to knit after her 65th birthday, was prolific at crocheting and made beautiful afghans for which she also won prizes. She enjoyed weekly bowling with her lady friends.  Lydia’s priorities in life were her faith in God and her family, who she loved unconditionally. She was predeceased by her husband John in March of 1955; her parents Emanuel and Louisa Boettcher; in-laws, Bill and Sarah Goehring; two brothers, Jack and Julius; her sister Sarah; three sisters-in-law, Martha, Cleo and Irene; four brothers-in-law, Harold Goehring, Reinhold Treiber, Edward Goehring, Andrew Gehring and John Haag. She is survived by her six children, Joan Seiler, Ella Mae Carlson, Ronald Goehring, Edward (Donna) Goehring, Barry (Debbie) Goehring and Lee (Linda) Goehring; Fifteen grandchildren, Andrea Seiler (Chris), Rick (Michele) Carlson, Dan (Lisa) Carlson, Laurie (Brian) Helmers, Rhonda Goehring, Robin McGinnis, Morgan McInnis, Mason McInnis, Shannon (Ricardo) Chavez, Tyler Goehring (Marina), Curtis Goehring, Jeremy (Sonita) Goehring, Bryce (Kristy) Goehring, Brandi Goehring and Blake (Ashlene) Goehring; twelve great grandchildren, Tiffany and Colton Carlson, Kaitlin and Brittany Carlson, Ruby and Jade Helmers, Alexandra Miller, Demika and Tyrese Goehring, Marissa,  Carson and Marek Goehring; two sisters-in-law, Helen Boettcher and Bertha Gehring as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the satff of Riverview Care Centre for the caring an love shown to our Mother during her five year stay. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A graveside interment service will be held at Prairie View Cemetery on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in St. Paul Lutheran Church (515 Sprague Way SE) on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Edel officiating.
