PATERSON James

Posted: December 15th, 2012

JAMES D. (JAMIE) PATERSON of Lethbridge passed away peacefully at the Fairmont Park Extendicare on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the age of 83 years.
Jamie was born in Lethbridge on January 10, 1929 to Gilbert and Nan Paterson. He spent his entire childhood in Lethbridge before moving to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta, graduating from law school in 1951. After a year of post-graduate studies in Toronto, Jamie began practicing law with his father’s firm, Rice Paterson in 1952 and continued as a member of the legal community in Lethbridge for over forty years. After ‘retirement’, Jamie was admitted to the Turks and Caicos Bar and spent several years living and working in Providenciales. He enjoyed traveling and always had a special feeling for the Caribbean islands. Dad loved to socialize and never turned down the opportunity to spend time with friends and family. After many years away, he chose to move back home to Lethbridge just over a year ago. We are so grateful to the wonderful staff at Fairmont Park Extendicare for their compassionate care of our Dad over the past eight months.
Jamie is survived by his four children, Tom (Wendy) Paterson of Kelowna, BC, Jane Paterson of Calgary, Doug (Valerie) Paterson of Nanoose Bay, BC and Allister (Lynn) Paterson of Oakville, ON/Helsinki, Finland; his brother John (Barbara) Paterson of Edmonton; his sister Anne (Tom) Shorthouse of Port Moody, BC; nine grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and by his older sister Audrey Dunlop.
A gathering to celebrate Jamie’s life will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at MARTIN BROS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge. A Private family inurnment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish may make donations in Jamie’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #D, 210 – 12A St N, Lethbridge, AB T1H 2J1, 403-327-4114 or to the charity of your choice.
