It is with great love and sorrow in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, nephew and friend, Floyd Charles Kayiihtsipikkimaan Fox. Floyd came from a huge family. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, his sons Gordon (Mary), and Eugene (Kitty Belle); daughters Anna Joyce (Randy), Marsha, Carmen (Mike), and Cheryl; brothers Richard (Mabel), Edward (Charlene), Grant (Vicki); his sister Sylvia (Frank); his beloved aunt Helen Many Fingers; many grandchildren and great grandchildren (too numerous to mention), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and in-laws; Verna Fox, Joanne Spearson, Roland Big Throat, Frisco Little Light, Eugene Creighton, Winnow Creighton, and Carrie First Rider; traditional sister Lena Russell; and the following families; Fox, Davis, Young Pine, English, Many Fingers, Heavy Shields, Eagle Plume, Plain Woman, Weasel Head, Weasel Fat, Russell, and relations from Crow Agency, Montana.
Our Creator called Floyd’s spirit home to join his son Clement Floyd Fox; daughter Melody Ann Denise Fox; grandsons Jamie Robin Fox and Kendall Charles Fox; his sister Juliana Wells; parents Alex and Josephine Fox; paternal grandparents Steven Sr. and Cecelia Fox; maternal grandparents Charlie and Rosie Davis; his father in-law, Jim Big Throat; mother in-law Isabel Big Throat; and other family members that are predeceased.
Floyd was born on the 20th day of October in 1931 at the Blood Reserve Hospital. He attended St. Paul’s Residential School where he served as an altar boy with the Anglican Church. Floyd raised his family with his wife Bernice on the Blood Reserve where he was a successful farmer. He received his education in Calgary as a young man which enabled him to work as a farm instructor for Indian Affairs on the Blood Reserve. Floyd worked in many capacities for his tribe such as; surveying the reserve land for the Lands Department; working as the housing director; contracting for various housing projects; managing his gravel truck company with his son Eugene, and was the president of the Blood Tribe Trucker’s Association; and farming.
Floyd was a gifted horseman. He had a special touch in selecting and training fine quarter horses which ran many successful races throughout many Canadian and US racetracks. Two of his favorite horses were Mighty Clabber who raced in the Mile High City, Denver “Littleton”, CO, and his pride and joy, Miss Snazzy Leo who was an AQHA superior champion race horse who had a speed index of 106, which held the track record in Helena, MT for many years. Floyd shared his passion of horsemanship with his wife Bernice and their three sons, Clement, Gordon, and Eugene who he taught how to train and respect horses. Floyd was a very knowledgeable and reputable quarter horse breeder whose quarter horses were often sought after in private sales, for their specific specialty training and breeding.
Floyd was a devoted Catholic who often visited Lake St. Anne with his family, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Magpie Society and a fluent Blackfoot speaker, who took great pride in taking care of his family. Floyd will be remembered as a friendly, gentle spirit, who made many friends on his many travels and in his community, and often enjoyed sharing stories and laughing with his friends. He loved animals and always being there for his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
