Elizabeth “Liz” Schmidt passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the age of 75 years, beloved wife of Jacob “Jake” Schmidt for 56 years. She also leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Terry Gill, Karen (John) Weisgerber, Rosemary (Armin) Nickel and Debbie (Jason) Schank; nine grandchildren, Tina (Boyd) Nowicki, Celine Gill, Brandi (Troy) Chiphura, Cabrinie (Greg) Wester, Rachel Weisgerber, Erikka Weisgerber, Sonia Laughlin, Samuel Schank and Madison Schank; three great grandchildren, Vontae, Dakota and Dreyden. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Adam Faller and one sister Gertrude. Liz was born on November 10, 1937 in Yugoslavia, (which is now Croatia). She immigrated to Canada with her parents on May 4, 1950 at the age of 12 years, settling in Alderson, Alberta. Liz received her education at St. Theresa’s Academy in Medicine Hat. On November 10, 1956 she married Jake Schmidt in Medicine Hat where they raised their family. Besides being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Liz enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and canning as well as bird watching. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday evening from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Matthew Emmelkamp celebrant. A private interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Carmel Hospice (St. Joseph’s Home) c/o 156 – 3 St. NE, Medicine Hat, T1A 5M1.
