KAYE HICKERTY

1931 ~ 2013

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Beverly “Kaye” Hickerty (nee Holmes) announce the sudden passing of our loving wife, mother, nana and great-grandmother. Kaye was born in Marquis, Saskatchewan and passed away in Toronto, Ontario, on Monday, August 26, 2013, at the age of 82 years. Kaye is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Joseph Hickerty; children, Heather Toft (Byron Robb), Kim Hagel (Patrick), Cindi Holland (Kenneth), Scott Hickerty (Jo-Anne), Tanys Kush (Murray) and Bobbi Jo Sim (David). Also left to honour her life are 20 grandchildren (and six of their spouses), five great-grandchildren; three brothers, one sister as well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends. Kaye was predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Violet Holmes and a grandson, Matthew. Kaye married the love of her life, Bob Hickerty, March 15, 1952, and shortly thereafter moved to Eastend, Saskatchewan where together they built their home. Between raising six children, Kaye was involved in the community of Eastend and served in many capacities including: playing the organ at St. Patrick’s Church for 20 years and teaching piano lessons, working along side her husband, Bob at his pharmacy, played in a country band with Bob and her father, played bridge with dear friends, joined the Pottery Club and volunteered in the every day “goings on” of a rural community! We will remember our mom for all the picnics, visiting Bethel’s Ranch, dinosaur bone hunting trips, swimming and fishing in the Frenchman River that flowed by our home. Mom sewed love into each halloween and skating costume she made and never missed a sporting or musical event of ours! Generally, our house was the home that everyone came to because mom took care and welcomed everyone. She had an infectious zest for life and her laughter naturally drew people to her. She was happy-go-lucky and could often be heard singing a happy tune as she had a ‘song’ for any occasion. When Bob retired, they moved to Medicine Hat in 1989, to be closer to their children. Mom made it known that she wished for a private family service at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel. Her wishes were honoured on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Philip Le officiant. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all the friends and family that have reached out to us in numerous ways, it is very dear to us, and means so much during this time of sorrow. In lieu of flowers, we request that consideration of donations be made to Mom’s favorite charity, Chalice; a great organization in which she proudly sponsored five children. Donations may be made by directly contacting Chalice (Canada) by visiting online at www.chalice.ca or by calling 1-800-776-6855. (Condolences may be expressed by visitingwww.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13th Street S.W. Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 4V4 Phone 403-527-6455
