Posted: October 16th, 20131931 ~ 2013
With heavy hearts the family of Violet (Vi) Catherine Dixon, beloved wife of Gordon Dixon of Medicine Hat, announce her passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the age of 82 years. Violet was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan on July 8, 1931, a daughter to proud parents, Charlie and Ruth Neil. She was raised in Watrous where she went to school and made many wonderful childhood memories in the time spent at the nearby Manitou Lake. Vi met the love of her life Gordon, and were married in Watrous on June 25, 1949. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Kindersley and remained in the area where they were blessed with the births of their children. Vi was a nurturing, loving mother and grandmother who embraced her life with family. She maintained the household and took great pride in her home and yard and was an exceptional cook and host – no one ever left hungry! While in Kindersley she worked at Robinsons and Zellers and owned and operated a successful little business, Vis Kitchen Boutique. She was active and enjoyed life…she and Gordon would attend socials and go dancing, play cards with friends and even took up skiing for a number of years. Vi liked to travel and loved to visit Las Vegas. In 1997, they moved to Medicine Hat where she began working in various stores as a food and product demonstrator and worked at the Casino as a blackjack dealer. People were naturally drawn to Vi as she had an infectious smile and was always pleasant. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Vis memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family including her husband, Gordon; children, Murray Leslie Dixon, Marcie Lee (Bill) Delday, Charles Frank Dixon and Russel Howard Dixon; nine grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Liogier and a brother, Paul Neil as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Ruth Neil and a brother, Quinn Neil. A Celebration of Vis life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street, S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, October 18, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. I am so sad to hear this news, I just saw Vi and Gordon at Wendy’s a short time ago. We had lots of fun working together at the casino. God rest her wonderful soul, take care Gordon and know I am thinking of you and yours.
Sincerely
