1925 ~ TURKOSZ ~ 2014

Stanley Turkosz, beloved husband of Elisabeth “Elsie” Turkosz of Medicine Hat, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at the age of 88 years, just 18 days short of 89. Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elsie; his two sisters, Helen Knutson of Medicine Hat and Julia Lenfesty of Drumheller; his brother-in-law, Kurt (Patricia) Staniek of Kapuskasing, Ontario and numerous nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by his parents, Joseph (February 18th, 1975) and Mary (July 11th, 1975) Turkosz; two brothers-in-law, Harold Knutson and Doug Lenfesty; and his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Staniek. Stanley attended Millard School and Jenner High School. In 1943 while in Grade 11, he was called into the army, training in Calgary, Wetaskiwin, Delbert, Nova Scotia, and St. John’s, Newfoundland. He received an honorable discharge and started his new life farming with his dad and working as a hired hand driving truck and shoveling wheat and coal. Stan also worked for the UBU Ranch. In 1957 he met Elisabeth Staniek who had immigrated from Berndorf, Austria with her parents and young brother in 1950. They were married in 1958 and celebrated 55 years of marriage. After 17 years on the farm, Stan and Elsie retired to Medicine Hat and enjoyed travelling to Austria, Barbados, Disneyland, California and Florida, Washington State, Oregon, and British Columbia, where they had a timeshare at Fairmont. Stan or “Mr. T.” as Elsie lovingly referred to him, enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and visiting friends. He also enjoyed bowling in the senior league for many years. Stan was very musical and everyone enjoyed listening to him play his button accordion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1732, the Royal Canadian Legion #17, and the Moose Lodge #1073. Stan will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Thursday, January 16th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Alphonse Narisetty officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
