1927~ WOLFER (nee CROY) ~2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Pat (Pansy Grace) Wolfer, 86, passed away Monday, January 13th, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

She will be sadly missed by her son, Leo and his wife Nancy, their child Steven (Katy), Leo’s children Stephanie, Clayton, and their mother, Marie Logan. Her daughter, Kathi and her husband Butch Van, their children Dean and Jamie-Lyn; as well as 11 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Three sisters-in-law Mae Bouvette of Raven, Alberta; Gert Croy of Quesnel, B.C and Louise Croy of Lloydminister, Alberta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Edmonton and was raised and schooled in the Flatbush area. She was predeceased by her husband Victor Wolfer; her mother Elizabeth Howse and her father, Jack Croy; seven siblings; Tom Bouvette, Marion Hammel, Ben Bouvette, Art Croy, Bob Bouvette, Martha Croy, and Charles Croy. After the war and a whirlwind courtship, Mom married Victor Wolfer in Calgary. Mom and Dad moved to Medicine Hat when Leo was very little and Kathi was on her way. She was first employed at the Medicine Hat Seed House and then decided to change her vocation to clerical when the Co-op opened in Medicine Hat on 6th Avenue SE. Mom later worked at Eaton’s as the jewellery manager and in 1974 she decided to stay home and babysit her four oldest grandchildren which was really Mom’s greatest love – looking after and playing with children. You could always count on Mom to come to the park and play or to go tobogganing until her rheumatoid arthritis would not allow her to. But then there were coloring books and puzzles, and reading to do. She loved her afternoon bowling league, sewing outfits for herself, Kathi, all the grandchildren, and then of course the Barbie and the GI Joe dolls. Mom loved to cook and bake; providing everyone who came with delicious cinnamon buns, cookies, cakes, and wonderful meals. She also loved to ride horses, host card parties and other parties, to go camping, fishing, visiting all of the relatives and again along on those trips came all the baking. There was always something she was planning for. It was never out of character for Mom to grab a piece paper and put a song or poem together. She was so surprised when upon opening a piece of mail and receiving a cheque for a poem or song. Mom and Dad always had an open door policy which meant Aunts, Uncles, especially Harvey & Johnny Roberts and friends of cousins were welcomed with open arms and stayed until they acquired their own accommodations. She insisted on our Grampa Wolfer moving to our house because he was old (age 72), needed attention and care. Under her watchful eye and loving care, Grampa lived until 93. Growing up with all these people in our lives provided Leo and Kathi with many babysitters, attention, and a lot of fun. We will cherish all of those priceless memories. Funeral services will take place at the SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Saturday, January l8th at 2:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating.
