It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Joe at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on January 14, 2014 at the age of 88, following complications from surgery. Joe will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 59 years, Geraldine; loving children, Jim (Pam) Hammel, and Linda (Neil) Nemeth; Joe’s very special grandchildren, Andrew and Kathryn; his siblings, John (Ada) Hammel of Medicine Hat, Phil (Jackie) Hammel of Saskatoon, Rose (Joe) Thome of Moose Jaw, Emily Hammel of Medicine Hat, and their families; as well as numerous extended Hammel and Henderson family members, and friends. Joe was born in the Lemsford area of Saskatchewan in 1925 to Andrew and Tillie Hammel of Prelate. He was a kind and loving person who put a smile on the face of everyone he met. Joe was strongly devoted to his family, and his pride and joy were his grandchildren. He was a man of deep faith and lived it out in a simple and quiet manner. He had a long career in the dairy industry in Saskatoon, retiring from Dairy Producers Co-op in 1990. The funeral service was held on January 17 at St. Philip Neri Church in Saskatoon. Memorial donations in Joe’s memory may be directed to the Children’s Hospital Foundation (Suite 1 – 345-3rd Ave S, Saskatoon, S7K 1M6) or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279-3rd Ave. N. Saskatoon, S7K 2H8). Arrangements in care of David Polzen – MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES, Saskatoon, SK. (306-978-5200)
