BRAND
Posted: April 16th, 2014Richard Dennis Brand of Tilley, beloved husband of the late Helen Brand, passed away in the Brooks Health Centre on Friday, April 11th, 2014 at the age of 79 years. Dennis was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. on November 11th, 1934 and moved to Scandia, AB. as a teenager, where he met and courted his future wife Norma Helen Murray. Dennis and Helen were married on June 16th, 1954. Dennis was employed by Schneiders Trucking in the 1950s and the EID in the 60s and 70s. Dennis and Helen went into business for themselves at that time, first owning and operating Brands Coffee Shop in Tilley and then Tilley Garage Services for several years before selling out, at which time they both went to work for Hatco Oilfield Services also in Tilley. Sadly, Dennis was predeceased by Helen in 1988, at the young age of 50 years. For several years thereafter, until he was no longer physically able, Dennis worked as a ranch hand for Donny and Cindy Wolfer of Tilley. He was predeceased by not only his wife Helen, but mother Clarice Hill Drake, father Richard Charles Brand and sister Delores Murrell. Dennis is survived by two daughters, Loralee (Kevin) Moore of Medicine Hat and Janice (Tom) McDougall of Horne Lake, B.C.; one sister Joyce Birkett of Moose Jaw; one brother Vaughan (Ellen) Brand of Olds; five grandchildren, Richard (Laura) Moore, Terrance (Danielle) Moore, Shannon McDougall, Tammy (Clay) Wilcox, Murray (Leah) McDougall; three great grandchildren, Thomas, Emma and Alice. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Mr. Kevin Moore officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Richard, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Room 124 Professional Building, 430 – 6th Avenue S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta T1A 2S8.
