Conner McDonald Ebbert

1926 – 2018

Conner McDonald Ebbert of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2018. He will be dearly missed by his children, Dale (Janice) Ebbert and Cyndie Britton (Carm); grandchildren, Kirsten Ebbert (Scott), Spencer Ebbert (Jessica), Carli (Mike) Rodger and Mackenzie Hart; great grandchildren Siri, Maven and Boden Rodger; and his beloved companion and friend, Joyce Owen. Con was predeceased by June, his wife of 49 years, in 2000 and his son Randy, in 2012.

Con was born on August 25, 1926 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, the eldest son of Jeanette and Elmer Ebbert. He grew up on the family farm on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, where his love of nature and gardening began. In 1948 he left home, moving to Lethbridge where he soon began a lifelong career in the automotive business, working with Imperial Motors, Fleming Motors, Car Lane Auto Sales and Bridge City Chrysler. For most of those years Con was the service manager and ended his career in sales with Bridge City. Throughout his career, Con received many Chrysler service management awards, obtained his Master Technician Certification and was salesman of the year for each of the last three years of his career. His insistence on doing things right and his integrity and honesty were hallmarks of his reputation and earned him the respect and admiration of not only his family, but also his many customers and friends.

Con and June were avid campers and their grandchildren will always treasure the wonderful times they enjoyed camping with Grandpa and Grandma and their memories of his harmonica tunes, ice cream cones, searching for the perfect branch to create a wooden whistle (or sling shot), campfires and toasting marshmallows.

In his retirement years, Con spent many hours gardening, woodworking and caring for his home where family and friends were always warmly welcomed. Many will remember barbecues in Con’s backyard and being toured around as he described the names and origin of his flowers, shrubs and trees. He was particularly in awe of his magnificent elm tree as it matured along with him. He was grateful for winter trips to Arizona and the good times and memories he and Joyce shared together.

Dad was an inspiration to his children and grandchildren. He worked hard and was a perfectionist, leading and teaching by example. He supported each of us in anything we chose to do, encouraging and taking pride in our educations and involvement in sports and the many opportunities life offered to us. Dad was a loving, kind and considerate gentleman and his sense of humour was appreciated by all who knew and loved him. Con lived into his old age with the same humour and with gentleness, grace and gratitude.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Clair Forestell, Janet Friebel, the team at Edith Cavell Care Centre, and the staff at Chinook Regional Hospital for their care, kindness and compassion for Dad in his final years.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 – 11 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Andrew Horne, officiating.

Inurnment to take place in the Mountain View Cemetery.
