April 24, 2019 – Princeton, British Columbia
Sister Mary Anne Mulvihill, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis for 53 years, died suddenly near Princeton, BC on April 24, 2019.
Mary Anne was born and raised in Calgary, and she was the second child of six siblings. She entered religious life in 1963 and made her first commitment in 1966. Mary Anne ministered in Burnaby, BC and Lethbridge, AB as a teacher for a total of eleven years and in Medicine Hat, AB as Director of Religious Education for twenty-one years. In her years in Calgary, she worked in Native Ministry at the Latour Center and spent many years in internal ministry with her sisters. Her community members valued her selfless giving as local community coordinator, provincial councillor, provincial leader and, for the past seven years, as provincial treasurer.
Mary Anne’s giftedness as an educator was recognized and appreciated by colleagues and students. She had a special place in her heart for the less fortunate and those on the margins of society. She will be remembered and loved for her presence and availability to all whom she encountered. She was a great organizer of events whether for family, community or friends. Nothing was too daunting for Mary Anne and whatever tasks she undertook, she gave it her very best.
Sister Mary Anne will be lovingly remembered by her community members; sister, Pat Sewell (Phil); brothers Ray (Claire), Jim (Grace), Tom, John (Wanda); several nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her parents, Martin and Mary (Burger) Mulvihill.
