Posted: June 4th, 2019Balthasar “Balser” Peter Heilman of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Kerr); children, Randall (Diana), Roderick, Kevin (Andrea); grandchildren, Gregory (Justina), Jared (Courtney), Brennen, Mitchell, Olivia and Reid; great-grandchildren, Zander, Nolin, Harper, and Lewis; sisters, Margaret Derringer and Lorraine Bowes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Balser was predeceased by his father and mother, Balzar and Margaret Heilman, and 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Balser was born Sept 14, 1932 on the family farm north of Fox Valley, SK. When he was 19 his father passed away and he took over managing the farm at the age of 19. When Dorothy and Balser were married in August, 1959 they lived in Medicine Hat but farmed for a year and a half until Margaret moved off the farm and she sold it. During his younger years he showed a natural affinity for fixing cars. He took his journeyman automotive ticket, receiving the highest marks in the province. He worked for several business before opening his own business “Balser’s Auto Service” from which he retired in 1992. He technically didn’t ‘retire’, as in the last few years he worked on friend’s lawn mowers, air conditioning in vehicles and assorted smaller mechanical jobs. Balser was friendly, talkative and a handy man and his garage door was always open. We invite friends and family to help celebrate Balser’s life on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fireside Room in the Cypress Center. R.I.P. uncle balser, thoughts and prayers auntie dot and family.
uncle balser was a super great guy…
So sorry to hear Dorothy, thinking of you all……
Although the world keeps turning
And the sun comes up each day
Life has never been the same
Since you were called away
You were such a special person
So gentle, good and kind
And have left the sweetest memories
And thoughts of you behind.
*Missing you greatly, you left us one year ago today*
