Franz Dominik Zuercher, of Barons, Alberta passed away at home on February 8, 2019 at the age of 68 years.
Franz is survived by his siblings; Hans, Anton, Marie-Therese, Martin, Paul, Anna and Bernhard. He is also survived by friends Anna-Marie Erdman and family and many friends at Keho Lake and Albion Colonies. He was predeceased by his parents and his eldest brother.
Franz was born on March 11, 1951 as the seventh of nine children, on a small farm in the foothills of the Alps in Switzerland. After high school he apprenticed and worked at the trade of toolmaker. He immigrated to Canada in 1976, where he settled in Edmonton, Alberta. He worked several years with a local oilfield manufacturing business. Later he settled in Barons, Alberta after he fell in love with that small rural village. He worked there many years at the local fertilizer plant, as a village townsman and on local farms. He was a member of the local volunteer fire department for many years and a member of the Elks. Franz was a great asset for the local community, helped everyone who needed a hand and so his sudden passing was felt as a great loss for everyone.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Barons Community Hall.
