Posted: December 23rd, 2019

It is with sadness that the family of Bob Redfern announce his passing after a brief illness. He passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 7, 2019, with his family by his side. Bob leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Elaine Redfern; sons, Doug Redfern and Eric Redfern; their mother, Shirley Redfern; Janet Widgill, his partner for over 30 years as well as his grandchildren Harrison Hlady, Graeme Hlady and Riley Redfern. He is also survived by his brother, Dick (Roberta) Redfern of Pitt Meadows, BC; nephew, David; niece, Lisa and his special friends, Willene, Karen and Lloyd. Bob was born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. As a boy/teen, he worked as a paper boy, caddy and pop truck helper. At 17, Bob worked in Labrador as a Diamond Driller and at age 18 he worked in Kirkland Lake as a Gold Miner (underground). Bob joined the RCMP when he was 19. He worked in BC and Ontario and retired in Calgary after 20 years of service. Bob worked as a cement truck dispatcher for a couple of years as he transitioned to his last job. For the next 17 years, he worked as a Sheriff’s Bailiff in Calgary and surrounding area. Bob was a kind and generous person who liked being around people. He increasingly enjoyed gardening in his later years with a special love for flowers. Throughout his life, he planted many trees and flowers wherever he lived or visited. Bob enjoyed smaller towns and cities and would often go on drives to explore and visit them. One of his favorite places was anywhere in the Okanagan area in BC. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held in Calgary at a later date. In honour of Bob, he suggested you could plant a tree, pick up litter and be nice to dogs. If desired, a donation could be made to the Humane Society. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is
