Grandchildren include Lynne (Andrew), Glen (Katie), Andrea (Brian), Sam, Laurel and Brittney (Adam); and great grandchildren Rowan, Jack, Natalie Anne and Nolan. Her surviving in-laws include Polly Howarth, Evelyn (Frank) Wince, Tom (Joyce) Zasadny, John (Leyda) Zasadny, Fran Dogterom and Norma Zasadny; as well numerous nieces, nephews and their families and life-long friends. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Alexander and siblings Louis, Marie, Francis, Jake, Raymond and Hendrik and Dogterom in-laws Irene, Grace, Irma, Robert and Zasadny in-laws Joseph, Fred, Ruth, Margaret and Mary. Muriel was born April 22, 1930 in Lethbridge to Jacob and Emily (Charest) Dogterom. She was raised on a farm east of Lethbridge where she found her passion for gardening and sewing. She received her education at McLean School, White School, McNally School and Garbutt Business College. Muriel worked as secretary for the Lethbridge Research Station and then Niagara Finance Co Ltd. In November 22, 1958, Muriel married Alex and soon became parents to Frank, Faye and Diana. Muriel’s friendships were lifelong. She cared greatly about family near and far, and nurtured those relationships. Muriel offered steadfast support. Always a friendly smile, an easy laugh and a cup of tea. Muriel gave her family a love of cards, scrabble, games and puzzles. She enjoyed her travels to Spokane and BC, and especially to Schoonhoven, where her father was born. Thanks to all the staff at Blue Sky Lodge in Lethbridge, Linden View Lodge in Taber and Home Care for their care. A Celebration of Muriel’s Life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to your local Food Bank.
