DENZIL FARNSWORTH GEROW

January 20, 1929 – April 26, 2020

On Sunday, April 26th, 2020, at the age of 91 years, Mr. Denzil “Denny” Gerow passed away at home in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Denny leaves to cherish his memory his children, Diane Yacey , Earl (Lourliney) Gerow, May Gerow -Thiessen, Geraldine (Bill) Roseberry, Loretta (Pat) Donahue, Gloria Mikulin, Thomas Gerow and Leona Gerow (Ross Roberts). Denny is also survived by his brother-in-law Ross Gifford, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Denny was predeceased by his wife Ruth, companion Phyllis Shipton, brother Clayton Gerow, sister’s Fern Gifford, Angie Gifford, Melva Hallahan, and sons in law Jerry Mikulin and Dave Glagau.

Funeral Services for Denny will be held on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Tinant Funeral Chapel. Due to COVID 19 attendance restrictions the service will be Live Streamed. Please use the link below.

Denny was born in rural Saskatchewan near Wilkie. He worked as a ranch hand in BC. He met and married Ruth Hewlitt (in Sask) and they moved to the Crowsnest Pass where he was a coal miner. They had 3 of his 8 children there, joined special forces and shipped out to USA where he trained and eventually was deployed as signalman to Korea. He was injured there and spent time hospitalized in Japan. Denny returned to Canada where he worked in rural telephone systems with his dad. His third daughter, 4th child was born here. He eventually followed his brother-in-law (Maurice Hallahan) to the oil patches of Alberta where he worked for about 45 years; fathering his last 4 children here. Retired in Drayton Valley where he buried his first wife Ruth of 51 years and met his second love Phyllis who he enjoyed 10 wonderful years with. He loved to travel and particularly loved rodeo. No unkind words ever left his mouth, truly a gentleman always.
