Agnes Brooks

1933 – 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Agnes Lillian Brooks, nee Ernest. Beloved wife of the late Mr. Dennis A. Brooks, on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the age of 87 years. Agnes was born on November 27, 1933 to Fred and Catherine Ernest in Humbolt, Saskatchewan. Agnes attended school in Humbolt until the age of 16 where she went to work in the local café. She then moved to Edmonton, where she met the love of her life, Dennis at a dance. They were married on April 22, 1957 and proceeded to move to various air bases, as Dennis was in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They spent the majority of their time on Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, where Agnes managed the Snack Bar and the Hanger 5 Snack Bar. Agnes, Dennis and family retired from air force life after 25 years and moved to Lethbridge, Alberta where Agnes did various jobs such as housekeeping, working at Dandees Grocery Store and housekeeping at the Lethbridge Hospital. Agnes faith was very important to her, she was an active member of the CWL in Portage La Prairie and attended church faithfully. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, shopping, watching CFL football with the family and loved visiting the family farm in Humbolt. Her greatest joy was her children, especially her 4 grandsons, who were and still are, the light of her life. You never left mom’s house hungry or empty handed. Agnes is survived by her son Henry (Brenda) Aric and Nolan Brooks; daughter Sharon (Art) Justin (Dani) and Matthew Malec; sister Isabel Lenny from Edmonton; brother Roman Ernest from Humbolt; sister Darlene Hunter from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
