HOYT, DAN THOMAS

MARCH 26, 1932 – NOVEMBER 6, 2021

With every call our family receives we hear the impact of the ready smile and the mischievous twinkle in our dad’s blue eyes. Dan passed peacefully in the wee hours of November 6th to join his wife Gerry and daughter Danita who passed before him. We imagine the love in the crowd awaiting him that includes his parents, sisters, and a whole lot of dogs, each one in his opinion ‘the very best dog’.

Dan was born in Whiskey Gap, Alberta and grew up on the family farm in Del Bonita. His marriage to a Vancouver Island girl led to 35 years living there, raising his kids, working, making friends, and finding ways to have some fun. This fun is known to include full scale water fights that seemed to come to an end when Dan brought the water hose into the house and the kids gave up.

Dan returned to Del Bonita when he retired at 61. He needed to get back to the place where you could see something. He loved the blue skies of Alberta. The routine of retirement fit him well, daily walks with his dogs, afternoon naps and coffee visits with neighbours and relatives.

The land was so important to him and his commitment to preserving it led to the national heritage site Hoyt’s tipi rings.

Left to celebrate and reminisce are his children Rob, Terry, Susan

(Yohei) and George (Nicole); his grandchildren, Danielle, Tasha (David), Shaun (Renae), Brenton (Ashley), Kai, Josh, Abbi, Brady and Reese and great grandchildren, Makenna, Addisyn, Charlie, Gracelen, Kashton, Noa and Lola. Dad and mom also added kids, Patsy and her kids Lisa and Cory are also family. Along side the family stories, come many from family and friends. A life well lived leads to a life well loved.

We will celebrate Dan in the early summer at the Del Bonita community hall. Date and details will be available at a later date. You can be sure there will be pancakes.
