Ezio Gardin

1932 – 2022

Ezio “Sparky” Gardin, beloved husband of Sophie Gardin (nee Lysak) passed peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday February 8th, 2022.

Born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta on December 21st, 1932, to Silvio and Gemma Gardin, Ezio grew up in a proud Italian household with sisters Eda and Maxine. A “Northsider” for life, he attended school and made many friends. In his youth, you were sure to find Ezio at the Senator Buchanan outdoor rink playing hockey or driving stock cars down at the Exhibition Grounds.

Ezio was best known for his years in the trucking industry. Ezio would begin his own business – Bridgeway Transport. This would eventually become a family-run operation with his sons. Ezio’s best years trucking were spent driving to Vancouver weekly, especially thru Rogers Pass, hitting more than a million accident-free miles before retiring.

Ezio would tell you that his greatest achievements in life were his family. He married his childhood sweetheart and spent 68 wonderful years with his wife Sophie. Proudly raised his children Gerry, Ezio Jr, Sherry and John and taught them the value of hard work and dedication to your craft. He would tell you his greatest joy was found in his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He would also tell you, “Believe what you believe, and feel what you feel without second guessing.” Something we will carry with us always.

We will miss his quick wit. His boisterous personality and his loud presence. We will also miss his random Italian phrases, a language he would not teach us so we could never know what he was saying.

Ezio is survived by and his memory forever cherished by his wife Sophie, sons Gerry, Ezio Jr. (Sue), and John (Donna), and daughter Sherry. Grandchildren Angie, Ally (Nate), Lindsey, Meg (Shieghla), Jennifer (Steve) and Nicholas, as well as great-grandson Kian. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister Maxine Richards, and sister-in-law Helen Lysak, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ezio was warmly greeted heaven-side by many beloved family who have gone before him.
