Stanley “Stan” Carroll

1947 – 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce that Stan Carroll of Warner passed away, surrounded by his family, at the age of 74.

He is survived by his beloved wife Betty (nee Fulton); sons Andy (Carri) and Jason; grandchildren Allyson, Kian, Chelsea and Ethan. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence (Rita); sisters Gladys (Cyril) and Flo, who all reside in Nova Scotia, as well as nieces and nephews, and many of Betty’s family who reside throughout Alberta.

Stan grew up in Dean, Nova Scotia, the oldest son of Walter and Doris Carroll, who had met and married during the Second World War. From a young age Stan enjoyed working for neighbouring farmers and in the bush. While attending school in Brookfield, NS, he also started dating Betty his high school sweetheart. In 1967, Stan and Betty moved to Alberta and were married in the next year. In the spring of 1968 Stan began working for Dale McKenzie in Warner, which began a life long friendship between the Carroll’s and McKenzie’s. He spent over next 30 years working for McKenzie Herford Farms, raising his family and teaching his sons what he had learned. Stan loved working with the cattle especially but found contentment in almost everything he did. He was especially happy to serve as a leader in the Warner 4-H Beef Club and to help where he could with the Warner Evangelical Church. In 1996, Stan had a heart attack that forced him to leave farm work, but he then found himself learning a new trade, rebuilding drill bits, and then working for the Village of Warner in the rink and at the waste transfer station. Stan loved to visit with people, and really enjoyed his work at the rink, sharpening skates and taking care of the ice. Even as complications from his heart troubles forced him to slow down, he continued to find enjoyment in wood working and doing odd jobs for anyone who would ask. Stan loved his family with great devotion and was a kind, generous soul who always saw the good in people.

Stan is predeceased by his parents Walter and Doris (nee Heley) Carroll.

Stan’s family would like to express special thanks for the outstanding palliative care he received from the physicians, nurses and staff at Raymond Hospital.

A Celebration of Stan’s Life for family and friends will be held at 2:00pm on March 14, 2022 at ST. AUGUSTINE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411 – 11 street South, Lethbridge. The service will be live streamed on the St. Augustine’s Youtube Channel https://m.you tube.com/watch?v=34qBYmK2epw.

Flowers are gratefully declined as Betty is allergic to flowers. Please direct memorial donations in Stan’s memory to HALO/STARS Air Ambulance or the Warner Volunteer Fire Department.
