BARBARA ANNA TERAJEWICZ of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Kazimierz Terajewicz, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the age of 86 years.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Yola (Steve) Gruca and her grandson, Matthew (Tessa) Gruca all of Lethbridge. Barb is also survived by her sister-in-law Aurelia Kochanek of Rhode Island, and brother-in-law Edward Czerwinski of Poland.
Barb was predeceased by her parents, Jan and Helena Batorowski, sister Stanislawa Czerwinska, and by her granddaughter, Stephanie Gruca in 2007.
Barbara was born in Warsaw, Poland and lived there until 1940 when the family moved to Legnica. There Barb finished grade school and continued her schooling completing studies in Finance. In 1960, Barb met Kaz while he was visiting family in Poland, and they married after a whirlwind courtship. Kaz returned to Canada and Barbara followed one year later, where she started her new life, with her new husband, in a new country, learning a new language.
Barb was an outstanding homemaker; she was a perfectionist and enjoyed caring for her family. She was always especially concerned that no one was hungry and ensured that never happened by feeding everyone that visited. Barbara also found time to work outside the home and spent almost 10 years at GTE Automatic Electric/AEL Microtel assembling telephones as well as making many friends.
More than anything else, Barb loved her family, and she was especially proud of her grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie. She also loved all animals, especially dogs and cats. Feeding her beloved birds all year long brought her great joy, too. Barb enjoyed travelling but she wasn’t so keen on flying anywhere. Together, Kaz and Barbara did visit Italy, Poland, Rhode Island, California and most often, Montana. Their favourite places usually included our beautiful Rocky Mountains, and the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park was at the top of their list. After retiring, Barb and Kaz often enjoyed visiting the casino for breakfast (giving mom a welcomed break from cooking).
Barbara’s hobbies included gardening, crocheting, and she especially enjoyed driving all of her friends (that didn’t drive), to their appointments and on grocery shopping trips.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, April 1, 2022 at ST. BASIL’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Barb was loved by her family and will be dearly missed. In memory of her, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
