MALLALIEU

It is with profound sadness that the family of WILLIAM (BILL) MALLALIEU announce his passing on Thursday, January 13, 2022, just shy of his 69th birthday.

After a long battle with heart and kidney disease Bill passed away at Surrey Memorial Hospital with his best friend Monika Doucelin at his side.

Bill was born on January 19, 1953 at St. Michaels in Lethbridge. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Peggy Mallalieu. He is survived by his siblings Norman and Robert Mallalieu and Monika and his godson Ali. Laven, Yara, Layann and Laith, were also a big part of his life. He did so much for the children, He always had all of them in the car going to swimming, ice-skating lessons, park, or taking them all to school in the morning. In part the kids kept him so occupied that being sick was on the back burner.

Bill attended Sunnyside Elementary and graduated from Kate Andrews High School in Coaldale in 1971. He then went to SAIT in Calgary and graduated with a Culinary Arts diploma in 1973. After working at different hotels in Calgary he went back to Lethbridge to be with our Mom as she was dealing with Cancer. After Mom passed he decided to go to Vancouver and became the night manager at a hotel on Robson Street where he worked for many years. He met Monika in Vancouver and they bought a home together in Surrey. He then was diagnosed with kidney failure and spent the next 5 years on dialysis before getting a kidney transplant. A few years later he developed heart problems and had open heart surgery. He just couldn’t catch a break. He spent the next few years in and out of hospital and eventually his body just gave out.

Bill had an infectious laugh and was also an accomplishment pianist. He will be greatly missed.

One Condolence for “MALLALIEU, William (Bill)”

  1. Robin Bell, calgary. says:

I remember driving out to see Bill the morning of his kidney transplant. Bill was so thrilled about his new renewed future. I’m sad to see it was not to last.
Bill was dedicated to Monica’s little boy, and I’m sure being
Involved in his life, gave him hope.
Bills laughter and imitations were razor sharp, no-one could do an accent like Bill.
    I miss him.
I’m glad he was well looked after by Monica.

Hopefully, we see each other again one day.
    Love,
    Robin Bell
