DAVID G. JAMIESON

December 29, 1937 ~ August 19, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David G. Jamieson. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of almost 40 years, Pat; two sons, Derek and David and his two step-daughters, Justine (Ken) Turner and their sons, Aidan and William, and Amanda (Ben) Mack and their sons, Owen, Brody and Jordan. David also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Bernice Innes and Sheila Bush; brother, Archie (Jessie) Jamieson as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. David was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Edna Jamieson and his brother-in-law, Don Innes.

David was born in Goldfields, Saskatchewan in December 1937. His family moved back to Nova Scotia when he was two years old after his father’s contract ended as a mining engineer and manager of gold mines in Goldfields. David attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He moved to Alberta in 1979 and lived in Medicine Hat until his passing. David was a great visionary and was instrumental in securing government funding to start the Medalta Potteries Museum, saving it from sure demolition. He volunteered for this project for almost twenty years, spending thousands of hours ensuring the survival of this now unique tourist spot in Medicine Hat. He enjoyed every minute of it and was so proud to see Medalta become a success. David was recognized for his volunteering with several awards including the Governor General’s Sovereign Medal for Volunteers, the Alberta Heritage Merit Award and the Alberta Centennial Medal.

David was in sales for most of his working life, including selling real estate in Medicine Hat for over 35 years with his wife, Pat. He also spent 20 years researching, writing and publishing six books called The Gold Seekers series which chronicles gold mining in Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. As well, David envisioned some rural land becoming a world class golf course – now known as Desert Blume Golf Club. He and some business partners set the wheels in motion for this development and it is now a popular course and beautiful residential community in Cypress County, near Medicine Hat. David was a very thoughtful, caring man and always the perfect gentleman. David and Pat’s travels took them to many parts of the world and they also enjoyed many winter trips south in their motor home.

David’s family wish to express their deepest appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff at Masterpiece Southlands Meadows Retirement Home. At David’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in David’s name to the SPCA-Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 55 Southwest Drive S.W., Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 8E8; as he so loved the many rescue dogs he had over the years.
