BENOIT, George

George Clarence Benoit…has gone camping! George was born in Antigonish, NS. on August 25, 1945 and passed away in Lethbridge, AB. at the age of 77 on October 25, 2022.
George loved the outdoors his whole life, so after finishing his schooling, he enrolled and graduated from the Maritime Forest Ranger School in Frederickton, NB in 1970. He worked one year in NFLD before moving to Alberta in 1971 where he found his calling with the Alberta Forest Service. His career took him all over Alberta and he eventually retired in 2010. The work he enjoyed most was fighting forest fires, but anything that got him out of the office, whether it be mill studies, oil field inspections or land use programming was good with him!
He met his wife at the bar one day after work, where she rescued him from the unwanted amorous attentions of another female. He continued to keep their relationship interesting by dropping her in a mud puddle on their first date! They eventually married in 1977 and were together for another 45 years, raising two sons.
George’s greatest joy was camping and trying to “skunk” his boys at cribbage.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Margaret DeWolf, father, Clarence Joseph Benoit, and step-father, Thomas Lawrence Connors.
George is survived by his wife, Wendie, sons Travis (Ally) and Bradey (Laurie); plus two granddaughters, Emily and Aubrey. His remaining siblings include Karen DeWolf, Margaret Benoit, John Leo Benoit, Stephen Thomas “Tommy” Connors (Barbara) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Instead of having a Celebration of Life after his death, we celebrated George’s life with him a few days earlier, where he got to visit with family, eat and drink whatever he wanted and enjoyed treats like black licorice pipes!
There are no formal gatherings planned, as George’s remains will be scattered in some of his favourite places. If you wish to remember him, please feel free to have a drink while camping, or enjoy his favourite meal of steak, mushrooms and beer at your favourite restaurant.
