VATCHER, Robert

Posted: November 18th, 2022

VATCHER It is with great sadness that the family of ROBERT “BOB” VATCHER announces his passing on November 12, 2022, at the age of 74, in Lethbridge, Alberta. Sadly, our lighthearted Bob was diagnosed with dementia 2 1/2 years ago and in his final days, this strong man succumbed to cancer.
Bob was born on October 18, 1948, in Montreal, to Gordon and Marion Vatcher. He was the eldest of seven. As a young man, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Field Engineer and served across Canada and Germany. In 1970, Bob returned to Canada for surgery, where he met Pauline who was working as a nurse. The two wed in 1972 and raised two great children: Gordon and Sonya.
After military service, the family settled in Lethbridge in 1986. Bob worked as a Water Treatment Operator at the water plant for many years. Briefly, Bob was a private Water Consultant throughout the province and worked with many Indigenous communities. Later, he joined Alberta Environment as a Water and Wastewater Technician where he oversaw the well-being of many water treatment plants across Southern Alberta. He thoroughly enjoyed his colleagues and relished in the problem-solving around the delivery of clean drinking water. Throughout his life, Bob worked tirelessly to provide for his family and supported them in their numerous endeavors.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pauline, and two children Gordon (Katherine) Vatcher, and Sonya (Rick) Friesen of Lethbridge, eight grandchildren: Jake and Dex Vatcher of Lethbridge, and Adam, Annabelle, Aaron, Amélie, Asher, and Andrew Friesen of Lethbridge, and by his siblings Russell (Candace) Vatcher of Calgary, Brenda Vatcher of Victoria, Roderick (Leanne) Vatcher of Christina Lake, Rodney (Arlie) Vatcher of Grand Forks, Beverly (Dale) Patterson of Sooke, and Ross Vatcher of Montreal.
As per Bob’s request, no formal funeral service will take place. In memory of Bob, please consider donating to www.waterforpeople.org to help provide clean drinking water to others. We will truly miss his contagious laughter and unique personality.
