Posted: December 6th, 2022

PIETRO “PETE” MAURIZIO FIORINO Sept. 22, 1929 – Dec. 2, 2022 Pietro Maurizio Fiorino (Pete) of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away after a short illness at St. Michael’s Health Centre on December 2, 2022, at the age of 93 years.
Pete was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy to Michele and Luigina Maria Fiorino. At the age of six, he began his apprenticeship as a carpenter, a trade that would ultimately lead to a successful career in construction and related businesses. This would support his family, community, and his love of music for the remainder of his life.
In 1951, he immigrated to Canada to start a new life in Trail, BC, working as a carpenter, playing music, and starting a family. A few years later, he moved the family to Lethbridge and soon started his own construction company (Fiorino Homes Ltd.) which experienced tremendous success as the city boomed.
For decades, Pete was a leader in the business community, participated in local and national politics, and was a patron of the Lethbridge arts scene. Throughout this time, he continued to play music, singing and playing guitar in bands that entertained thousands at local events in the city.
Pete lived a remarkable life, characterized by a great love of music and art, extraordinary talent and creativity, the vision to identify opportunities not seen by others and the courage to pursue them, an incredible work ethic, the resilience to start over following hardship, and a keen responsibility for family and friends.
He is survived by his son Michael (Connie) and their children Courtney, Sascha (Antonia), and Natasha; his daughter Mary (Danny) and her daughter Amanda (Colter); his son Rob (Elena) and his son Peter (Diana), and his son Dennis (Colette) and their children Anna (Justin), Claire (Ian), Samuel, and Lucie; as well as his sister Teresa (Rinaldo), brother Albert (Eleanor), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and their families.
He was predeceased by his brother Raffaele (Rose) and sister Alberta, who died soon after birth.
The family would also like to recognize Marcel Dagenais for the friendship and care he provided our father in the last phase of his life, as well as the many people who have offered their condolences in the last few days.
Pete will be laid to rest at a private family ceremony. Family and friends are invited to a reception in memory of Pete on Thursday, December 8, 2022, between 1 and 4 pm at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club (Centennial Room), 3401 Parkside Dr, Lethbridge, AB.

  2. Sandra T Scow says:

Zio Pietro will be missed by many in the family and from friends. He was a truly special man, and there are no words I can offer about how sorry I am. I have not seen him often in the last few years, but I remember growing up with him, and I will always have many memories of him. I will keep everyone close in my thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks as a family goes through grieving. I know we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by sharing their love.
