Posted: February 3rd, 2023JEAN MARIE GREGG
Nov. 14, 1931 – Dec. 11, 2022
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved Mother.
Jean was born in Crookston, MN to Willis and Margaret LePoidevin, she had two younger brothers Willis Casey and Kenneth they grew up together in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Jean graduated High School in Bonners Ferry and would attend Eastern Washington University to pursue her teaching degree. After graduating, Jean taught School in several cities in the US.
Jean was offered a teaching position in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, so being the courageous person she was she said yes to Canada.
She arrived at the Canadian border with five children driving a white Cadillac and horse trailer in tow.
In the fall of 1967, the amazing Mrs. Gregg was introduced to School District 51.
Jean would teach School at Lakeview for most of her thirty-year career. She was an incredible teacher and was passionate about teaching kids never a dull moment in her classroom. She made learning fun inspiring kids to dream big and believe anything was possible if they worked hard.
Jean truly enjoyed every day at Lakeview School and cherished the moments she had with her students and fellow teachers many of them becoming lifelong friends. One of her favorite hobbies was being a member of the Bluebird Association and building nests for the wild bluebird habitat with her friend Eleanor.
After retiring from Teaching, Mom traveled extensively throughout Canada and the USA.
Mom would make yearly trips to see her brother Casey in Fort Worth, Texas driving her red Honda all the way. Jean would go visit her son Scott in Phoenix, AZ. She would buy a winter home in Mesa, AZ. and would spend many winters there, loving the hummingbirds and desert flowers.
Jean loved to explore and loved new adventures.
On one of her many trips, she would travel on her son Greg’s 65-foot fishing boat as a deckhand from Seattle to Alaska. My brother was an incredible tour guide teaching her the life of a commercial fisherman. Mom said it was a trip of a lifetime.
Mom had so many different interests and loved debating politics with her son Michael and talking about the stock market. Mom loved learning about new things, she read every day and listened to CBC news on her radio. Jean also had a passion for flowers she truly loved growing them, arranging them, it was her happy place. She would always have fresh-cut flowers around her home it was a luxury she enjoyed. Her daughters Deborah and Julie shared her love of flowers and planted many beautiful gardens together.
Jean lived a thousand lifetimes.
In her final letter to her children “My life would have been worthless without you kids, as you made my life worthwhile, I love you so.”
Jean will be greatly missed by her children Deborah (Harry), Greg, Julie (Jack) and Scott. Jean was predeceased by her son Michael. Her loving grandchildren Casey, Krista, Jessie, Cody, Savannah, Dylan, Lexi, and Jaeger. Great grandchildren Remi, Jada, David, Nathan, Jason, Kyson, Kaycee.
Her children would like to say Thank You for Everything.

Jean,,it was wonderful knowing you, that magical giggle and twinkling eyes. I loved how you called me “kid,”
I enjoyed our time together at Lakeview School. Your zest for life was amazing and inspiring. I so enjoyed that “we retired teachers “ used to meet once a month for coffee..and even then you still called me Kid! Of course Covid brought this to an unsatisfactory end!
I am so grateful that you were a big part of my teaching career.
Barbara Warren.
Jean, you were an inspiration to everyone you came in contact with! Every student and their parents loved you! I am so glad that you were in my life at Lakeview! I always felt that Lakeview was the country club of elementary schools!
I am so glad that I met you!
Mrs. Gregg was my grade 4 Teacher. She was one of the best. My condolences to your Family.
Oh my goodness….. I am really sorry to hear of this. We loved Jean!!!
Tracey, Brian and I remember all of you with all of our hearts.
She was always shining and kind and crazy in the very best way. Such a bright light. You were so lucky to have her as your Mom….
Lots of Love
Deb and family.
So sorry for your loss. Where to begin. Your mom was an amazing woman and so much fun. Once she entered your life she never left. Every November I received a birthday card with a lovely message in it and I so looked forward to that, they were always inspirational messages. She will truly be missed.
Rest peacefully sweet Jean, I hope you and Mike are drinking up the wine.
Love Ron and Nancy
Sincere condolences to the family. I was lucky enough to be a student teacher with Jean many years ago. I have never forgotten her. I remember her energy, passion and the love she had for the children in her care. She gave me the confidence to continue on my path and a 43 year teaching career.
My whole heart goes out to Jean’s beloved family. Jean Gregg and her beloved children were a most important part of my memories along with my siblings Kathy & Brian and the experiences in our younger years! She showed us so much love during times when we most especially needed it. Jean was a champion for my brother & I and always cared for us with all her heart. I will never, ever forget the most happy times we all spent out at the lake laughing and enjoying our time together as a family (especially with Scotty!) I have missed her and will always wish that she could have been our Mom. I pray for blessings for Jean and her family and I know she is making everyone laugh & taking charge whereever she is!! Sending much LOVE & HUGS to Debbie, Julie & Scott. From the David Sorensen family.
I worked with Jean at Lakeview School and she was like a breath of sunshine , full of fun and zest for life ! She loved her students and the staff . Deepest condolences go out to her family .
Jean had such a spark! She was curious, imaginative, full of fun, and determined to light a fire in the hearts of her students. Learning with Jean Gregg was an adventure. She taught all of our children, and they loved her because she loved them and they knew it. Our entire family will miss this vivacious, giving teacher who encouraged, enlightened, and loved unconditionally.
In the spring of 1968, I was blessed to be placed at Westminster Elementary School with Jean for a six-week internship. Spending time time with Jean in her grade four classroom was an amazing experience. Jean truly loved each one of her “kidlets” and bright joy and laughter to her teaching. She encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, and to really connect with the children. She supported every new thing I wanted to try, and became a supportive friend. We worked together for the next three years, trying to figure out team teaching, sharing ideas and lots of laughter. As I did not have a car at first, Jean kindly drove me home at the end of the day, and we often lingered in the car for a long visit. She had so much love for her children and her students. I valued her mentorship, her friendship and her vitality. Her influence made me a much better teacher and enriched my life, even though our paths diverged. I am grateful for the time we spent together. I know she will be missed by many.
Deb and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Her cherished memories will remain as bright moments in your heart. 💐
Deb and all Jean’s family,
I wish to send you my special thoughts and my condolences. Jean was an amazing, one of a kind person and I admired her very much. Her obituary is right on, she lived a thousand lifetimes!
Deb, Julie, Greg, and Scott,
I wish to send my condolences for the loss of your mother. Jean was one of a kind and lead the most interesting life. I feel fortunate to have known her when she married my dad, Bill. Jean was so kind to us kids and your family was so welcoming to us. I am sorry that marriage did not work out but happy that I got to be part of her world. Jean was such a character!
I am sorry for your loss.
Mrs. Gregg taught me in grades two and three at Lakeview Elementary way back in 1968. She was truly the best teacher I ever had. I have thought of her so often over the years. She was magic and I believe she made me everything that I am. I thought she was invincible. I am so sorry for your (sic our) loss. Rest in Peace.

Dear Auntie Jean,
So sorry to hear of your passing. However, you are now reunited with some of the best people I know. Many fun filled memories of you, Uncle Casey, Papa Ken and Momma Inge sitting around the kitchen table playing cards, drinking fun stuff and oh the conversations!!! I will forever cherish those memories. I love you Auntie!
Peace Out!🕊️
