CASEY STIGTER June 2, 1934 ~ February 11, 2023
Casey Stigter, beloved husband of the late Jenny Stigter, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the age of 88 years. Casey leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Harry (Audrey) and Don (Ingrid); seven grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Stigter, Michelle (Tim) van der Hoek, Alison (Kevin) Stonehouse, Amanda (David) Vandyk, Ashley (Jorik) Langeweg, Sheldon (Braunwyn) Stigter and Amber Stigter (Tyler) as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Casey is also survived by his brothers, Harry (Diane) and Pete; sister-in-law, Alice Stigter; Jenny’s sisters, Mary Vander Kwaak and Rene Thompson and sister-in-law, Netty Prins.  Along with Jenny, Casey was predeceased by a newborn son in 1962, parents, Arie and Maria Stigter; brother, Lane and sisters, Audrey, Martha and Rhea. Casey was born on June 2, 1934, to Arie and Maria Stigter in Honselersdijk, Netherlands and in 1951, the Stigter family immigrated to Taber where he worked as a farm hand. In 1956, Casey met the love of his life, Jenny Prins and they were married in 1957. In 1961, they built their first greenhouse. In 1966, Casey, along with nine other greenhouse growers, started Red-Hat Co-op. He was very proud of what the Co-op meant to the growers and of what it had become including the success it still is to this day. In 1982, Casey was instrumental in starting AGGA (Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association) which was also an organization he was proud of. He was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church where he enjoyed playing his trumpet for many services. After retirement in 1989, Casey and Jenny spent many a winter either on a cruise ship or pulling the trailer south to Sky Valley RV Park in California. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat, on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor George Koopmans officiating.
