NANCY LOVEJOY 1933 – 2023
Nancy Edith Caroline (nee Washer) was born on October 20, 1933 and went to be with her Lord on the 31st day of March, 2023 at the age of 89 years. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Russell Gordon Lovejoy of Medicine Hat. Predeceased by her father Leslie Fowler Washer in 1981, her mother Arena (Hall) Washer in 1993 and her brother Leslie George Samuel Washer in 1986, all of Montreal, Quebec. Nancy was born in Montreal and had a long association with the Salvation Army in Quebec until she moved with her first husband (late, Donald Smith) to Medicine Hat in 1990, to be closer to their children who were living in the Calgary area. Nancy transferred to Hillcrest Evangelical Church in 1993 and became a member in the Stephen’s Ministry Program. An active member of the Veiner/Strathcona Centers, Nancy enjoyed dancing, fitness classes and the Thursday evening 50 plus club where she served as President for two years. Nancy spent her spare time visiting palliative care patients at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital through the Hillcrest Church visitation program, volunteered at the local food bank and was a “foster mom” to several World Vision children over the years. Nancy met Russ in June of 2002 and they married on May 31, 2003. They shared a mutual love of dancing, golf and travel having taken three cruises, several trips across Europe and many short visits to Cuba where Nancy distributed bibles to the locals.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Deborah (Kevin) McInnes of Diamond Valley, Alberta and one son Bradford (Carleen) Smith of Calgary; eight grandchildren: Christa (Rob), Lindsay (Abe), Adam (Jennifer), Alex (Clare Barnett), Olivia, Jessica, Andrew and Evan as well as ten great grandchildren. Nancy will be deeply missed by her sister Norma (Richard) Frost of Airdrie, Alberta and their two sons, Brian and Kevin as well as many friends and extended family members.
Thank you to all the wonderful caregivers at Riverview Long Term Care where Nancy lived since January of 2019. The individual attention and the love you showered on Nancy and give to all residents, is exemplary. Special thanks to Nancy’s devoted Caring Hearts friend Melissa, who spent quality girl time with Nancy, keeping her hair and nails looking fabulous, reading favourite Bible passages, playing games and giving encouragement with eating. You have been a godsend to our beloved Nancy.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Kevin McInnes officiating.
