ELMER “RED” JACOBER 1935 – 2023
Elmer “Red” Edwin Jacober of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Julia Bruins Jacober; his daughter Mona (Mike) Cann of Airdrie and one granddaughter Amelia Cann; Julia’s daughter Candace (Brendon) Bashuski and their daughter Tabitha; his brother Harold Jacober; his sister Evelyn “Tootie” Boettcher; sisters-in-law Marge Jacober, Helga Matthews, Deanna Siewert and Kathy Mason, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bertha and Julius Jacober, his wife Penney and brother Reuben Jacober. Elmer was born on December 16, 1935, on the family farm at Rose Glen near Schuler. At the age of 12, due to his father’s illness, he quit school and took over the farm, retiring in 1999. He married Penney McFall on November 14, 1969, in Medicine Hat and they enjoyed hundreds of bonspiels and community get togethers until her passing in 1995. In addition to farming, he drove school bus for 19 years, having the privilege of driving some of the children of his first riders. He loved curling and was known as a formidable opponent. He played baseball and later slow pitch every summer. When he wasn’t playing, he was umping. He loved a good game of cards. Following his retirement, he moved to Medicine Hat. He married Julia Bruins on October 23, 1999. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Wray officiating.
