JANINE JACKSON 1986 – 2023 Janine R. Jackson of Lethbridge, beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the age of 37 years.
Janine was born April 8, 1986, in Slave Lake, Alberta. She was a graduate of Mistassiniy High School in her hometown of Wabasca, which she left after graduating high school and never looked back! Janine went to Red Deer college for one year, then moved to Lethbridge where she completed the Culinary Arts program at Lethbridge College with her Red Seal Certificate. She worked at Enmax Centre as an Executive Chef and Pasta Frescos as a Sous Chef. It was after working long hours in the kitchen she decided to further her education at the University of Lethbridge to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Native American Studies. She was currently working towards her Master’s degree in Native American Studies. Janine then worked at the Chinook High School for one year where she connected with students, parents and staff who became great friends.
Next, she went on to achieve the greatest accomplishment of her life’s work at Lethbridge Family Center, where she worked with Elders who she referred to as her “knowledge keepers”. She also worked with multiple families and many agencies that supported the work she was doing. Janine will be greatly missed by her clients and her coworkers who loved her outstanding work ethic and her “go getter” attitude. Janine truly lived life to the fullest and gave everything she could back to her community, she enjoyed cooking big batches of food, packing plates, and passing them out to the people in all walks of life, which she called her friends.
When Janine wasn’t busy with work, helping others, or school, she loved having her friends and family over for barbecues, laughter and game nights. She had the ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, and always lit up any room she entered.
She is survived by parents’ mother, Lillian and dad Stonewall; brothers, Jordon & Blair; sister, Cherie; and her grandmother Betty Jackson, many aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends she considered to be family.
All of those whose lives Janine touched are invited to her Celebration of Life from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Multicultural Center, 21 6 Ave S, Lethbridge, Alberta, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and pay their respects.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Chinook Regional Hospital for the great care and compassion. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank her friends who became her family here in Lethbridge. It’s because of their love and friendship that she thrived in this beautiful community she called home.
