STENDALL, Gloria

STENDALL GLORIA GRACE STENDALL (née Down) of Milk River, AB, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Milk River Health Centre, on Friday, August 25, 2023 at the age of 101 years. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Marilyn (Gerry) Monro, son Bob (Laurilee) Stendall and daughter Gwen (Don) Toovey. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband Gordon, parents Ed and Hattie Down, brother Wes Down, sister Leona (Bob Burgess) and many dear friends.
Gloria was born in Virden, Manitoba on July 23, 1922. She lived a very full life, with so many good friends and family who loved her dearly. Her memory was incredible and she would share detailed stories about growing up in the 20s and 30s, her first picture show date with Gordon (and his mother), her kids shenanigans growing up, the many dances, parties and celebrations they attended, and what all her grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and children have been up to.
Up until a week ago, she was still known for her beautiful knitting, her Crib playing (she was very tough to beat), her love of puzzles and Bingo, and watching curling on tv (especially watching the 2023 Brier).
Gloria was also known for letting everyone know exactly what she was thinking at all times. Because of this, we have many “Grandma Quotes” to bring a smile to our faces as we remember her fondly.
Her memory will live on as our family will continue to reminisce about her for many years to come.
On July 23, 2024, the family will gather to celebrated her birthday and her life.
We wish to thank Dr. P. Meyer and all the staff at the Milk River Health Centre – Continuing Care, and Prairie Rose Lodge for the wonderful care of our mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (heartandstroke.ca)
