PLATT, Sharon and Don

Posted: November 1st, 2023

PLATT Sharon Platt (nee Van Orman), beloved wife of Don Platt, passed away in Taber the morning of Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the age of 80.
Don Platt, beloved husband of Sharon Platt, soon joined his sweetheart of 60 years, also passing away in Taber on Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2023, at the age of 85.
Don and Sharon are survived by their children Shari (Brad) Hill of Edmonton and their children Brooke (Brian) Hill, Brodie (Angela) Hill, Brandon (Melanie) Hill, and Brigham (Brittney) Hill; Sina (Dustin) Jensen of St. George, UT and children Andrea (Mason) Hunter, Madison and Zachary; Donel (Lorraine) Platt of Wide Water and children Tyler (MacKenzie) Platt, Travis, Thomas, Tate and Tanner; Damon Platt of Taber and children Haley and Esiah; Tiana (James) Gardner of Taber and children Benjamin, Asher and Jett.
Don and Sharon were predeceased by their parents Ben and Iola Platt, Van and Bird Van Orman, their beloved sons Benjamin, Donavon and Benton Platt, and Sharon’s sister Collette Iwaasa.
Don and Sharon were faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They served in many capacities, willingly sharing their unwavering testimonies and knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
Their commitment to their faith combined with their enthusiasm for adventure led them to eventually be called to serve five church missions together. They started with a local mission to Vauxhall, then onto Mongolia, followed by the West Indies, then London, England and finally to Tempe, Arizona. It was a difficult decision for them to stop serving missions as they found such joy in sharing the gospel with new friends around the world.
Don and Sharon led a life of service, kindness, and gratitude. Their examples of love reached so many, but none so much as their children and posterity. They will be dearly missed.
The Platt family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at the Taber Hospital along with the staff at Coulee Medical under the direction of Dr. Ryan Torrie, for going above and beyond in ensuring the comfort and care of their parents in their final days. They would also like to thank the community of Barnwell, along with friends and family near and far, for all the acts of kindness and care shown to them throughout their life together.
The children of Don and Sharon invite family and friends to join them for a Memorial Service to be held in their honor Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Barnwell Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 11:00 AM. Luncheon to follow.
