SIG BRITTNER 1935 – 2023
The family of Sigesmund (Sig) Brittner are saddened to announce his passing on Wednesday November 29, 2023, at the age of 88 years. Sig was born in Foremost, Alberta on February 4, 1935, and was raised along with seven siblings within this farming community.
At a young age, Sig moved to Acadia Valley to assist a family member with their farm. This job was the greatest gift he could have asked for as there he met his loving wife of 67 years, Kari Pedersen. Kari had moved to Canada from Otta, Norway to work as a caregiver for local Norwegian seniors. Although her English was limited, Kari and Sig met, and the lovely Norwegian lady became his love and lifetime mate.
Sig married to Kari Pedersen on November 5, 1956, in Acadia Valley, Alberta. The couple had four wonderful children and took up farming in the Richmound, Saskatchewan community. They enjoyed many years working and raising a family on the “Sunny Slope Farm”. Although they had many friends and great relationships in the community, they decided to retire to Medicine Hat. They were active members of the church and community. Sig was a proud and active member of the local Knights of Columbus.
Sig will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kari Brittner. He is survived by children David (Bonnie) Brittner, Ingrid (Duncan) Chisholm, Robin (Heather) Brittner and daughter-in-law Yvonne Brittner. Sig was predeceased by his son Richard Brittner in 2000. Sig will be fondly remembered by his 11 grandchildren, Jamie (Chantal) and Justin (Natalie) Chisholm, Kaylen (Tyler) Christiansen, Kristin (Dylan) Armstrong, Kevin (Laura) and Jerret (Alyssa) Brittner, Kari Ann (Trevor) Wenzel, Chad (Jody) Brittner, Paulina (Tom), Madison and Zach Brittner. Sig also had the opportunity to enjoy 14 great-grandchildren. They will all greatly miss the smiles and candy fix Grandpa Sig loved to hand out when they visited.
Sig is survived by siblings Betty Irving and Katherine (John) Lawrence. He was predeceased by his parents Sigesmund and Salamea Brittner and siblings Peter, Veronica, Odelia, Ralph and Tony.
In keeping with Sig’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held in celebration of his life. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
