MARGARET THIESSEN 1926 – 2024 Mrs. Margaret Thiessen, beloved wife of the late Jacob I Thiessen (Honey), of Coaldale, Alberta, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the age of 97 years.
Margaret was born in August 1926 to Gerhard and Maria Wall in Danilivka, Ukraine. The family immigrated to Canada when she was two years old and eventually settled in the Coaldale area, where she also received her education. In her youth she accepted the Lord as her Saviour.
Mom and Dad were married in 1947 and started their life together, purchasing a farm in the Broxburn area. Her greatest joy was working alongside Dad in whatever venture they chose to undertake. Mom was involved in the Women’s Group at Church and enjoyed volunteering wherever she was needed. Mom loved to bake and shared her skills with her children and grandchildren. Mom was an outdoors person her entire life, and no summer was complete without a trip to Waterton with the family, KFC, and her delicious chocolate cake or cookies filled with raisins. After Dad’s passing, she continued to live in the home they had purchased in Coaldale until her mid-nineties when she moved to the Coaldale Health Care Centre.
Margaret is survived by her children Dorothy (Bill) Siemens, Grace (Dave) Matthies, Ed (Annemarie) Thiessen, Larry (Joyce) Thiessen, and Les (Melody) Thiessen; and her grandchildren Eileen, Keith, Rhea, Brent, Norah-Faye, James, Evan, Matthew, Lauren, Aaron, Victoria, and Brian (and their partners). Margaret is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
When the grass grows green again, family will hold a graveside celebration of Margaret’s life, but for now we say, thanks for all the memories, Mom!
