1943 – 2024
Richard Douglas Owen, beloved husband of Rosemary “Twink” Owen, passed away peacefully in Taber on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at the age of 80 years, surrounded by his loved ones.
The celebration of Richard’s life will be held at the Wrentham Community Center on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at www.southlandfuneral.com.
Richard will be greatly missed by his wife Rosemary; children Michele Owen of Taber and Kim (Rochelle) Owen of Wrentham; grandchildren Kennedy (Blake), Dwain, Curtis and Ashley (Ryan); great grandchildren Kynlee, Raelee and Zane. He is also survived by his siblings Judy (Gary) and Les (Deb) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his parents Doug and Jesse Owen; siblings Dorothy and Gail.
Richard was born May 27, 1943 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan to the late Doug and Jesse Owen. He is the oldest sibling to Dorothy, Judy, Gail and Les. After school he worked at the Burmis Sawmill as well as digging pipelines. He then started farming and ranching in 1965. Richard married the love of his life Twink on November 4, 1967. He started operating oil wells in 1975 before starting his own trucking company Owen Oil Services in 1987. In 1997 the farm diversified into raising Elk. Besides his passions for farming, ranching, being a grandpa and great grandpa, he loved fishing, hunting, camping, quading and working on his old vehicles.
Richard had a kind heart and gentle soul. He was always willing to lend someone a helping hand and thought everyone deserved a chance.

The family would like to thank the staff at both the Chinook Regional Hospital and Taber Hospital for their care and compassion. It was greatly appreciated.
