1932 ~ EDWIN DEERING ~ 2024 Edwin Henry Deering passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, April 8th, 2024 at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his sons, Vincent (Lisa), Wayne ( Carla), and Larry Helm (Bonnie); daughter, Doreen Gunderson (Darcy Harty); 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; his brother, Allen (Pearl); sisters, Emma, Lily (Wynn), Laurena, and Peggy; many nieces and nephews; as well as his special friend, Virginia Hildenbrand. He was predeceased by his wife, Magdalena “Lena”; son, Allen Helm; and his parents, Henry and Erna, as well as many other family members. Dad was a hard worker all of his life. He worked for the City of Medicine Hat for 32 years, not one to sit still, he also worked for Schlenker’s Auction for another 16 years. Most weekdays you could find him at the Viener Centre playing shuffleboard, pool, and having coffee with his friends. Saturday mornings he was a staple at the Farmers Market. If you met Dad there was always a joke to be told to you, ALWAYS! He was a kind, gentle man who will be missed by his family and all those who knew him. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE Medicine Hat, AB, on Thursday, April 25th, 2024 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, The Funeral Service will be held at Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Drive SE Medicine Hat, AB T1B 2H1, on Friday, April 26th, 2024 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Roland Weisbrot and Pastor Grant Crichton officiating. If unable to attend, family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to victorylutheran.ca/livestream/ at the above date and time. Interment will follow at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Donations in Edwin’s memory may be made to Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home, 156 3rd Street NE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.     Edwin Deering: I met Edwin when my wife Nancy Milligen and I visited her aunt Virginia Hildebrand in Medicine Hat. Nancy’s Birthplace. I enjoyed conversing with Edwin a lot. He was a great man.
