STOKES, Helen
Posted: May 24th, 2024 HELEN RUTH STOKES (NEE PEPPER) Born November 1922 Belleville Ontario Passed Away May 2024 Lethbridge Helen is now at rest after a life well lived in service of her family, friends, and community. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Helen, you would remember her. She was elegant, graceful, and funny. Each day started with a stylish outfit selected for the needs of the day and she never left the house without her lipstick. Helen was full of wit and spunk, always ready to right a wrong or support a loved one. She possessed a keen interest in others. Helen always shared a unique anecdote about the person with whom she was visiting, stories no one else would remember. Her ability to make you feel loved was remarkable, whether you were family, a friend or an acquaintance.
As local business owners, Helen and her late husband Jack Stokes ran Stokes Drug Company on 5th St in Lethbridge until their retirement in 1981. Both were heavily involved in community groups and gave generously to those in need. She was the matriarch of the Stokes Family; she and Jack were married for fifty-five years. During her long life she was a cherished Mother to Ernie (Ronee), Frances (Joe) and Roi (Bev) and a beloved Grandmother to Tim, Laura, Shawna, Emma and Aaron and great grandmother to ten. She will be remembered for her hugs and countless acts of love. As her family all agrees, she had the key to a life well lived; dress well, care for others, love fully and don’t forget to eat the ice cream.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cedar Creek Adaptacare for their compassion and care over the past several years.
Additionally, the Stokes/Schipper family want to acknowledge the companionship, care and love given to her by Jackie Adams. She loved Jackie as one of her own, and we will forever be grateful for her presence in Helen’s life.
As was Helen’s wish there will be no funeral service.
