GERDA WAMSTEEKER 1930 – 2024 With the full assurance of God’s grace, Gerda passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 93 years. She will be greatly missed by her children: Barb (Dick) Visser and their sons Mitchell (Jerri-Lyn), Shawn (Sheena), and Jordan (Jen); Denise (Murray) Buesink and their children Kimberly (Mark), Sara (Steve), Steven (Courtney), and Nicholas (Melisa); Erna (Allan) Karsten and their children Brad (Stephenie), Andrea (Mike), Kelly, and Ashley (Ryan); Lee (Marlene) and their children Michael (Diana) and Jackie (Carlo); Jolyn (Josh) Bolderheij and their children Leah (Garrett) and Katie; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Gerda is survived by her sister Tressa Brandhorst, her brother John (Bertha) van Zeggelaar, sister-in-law Kathy van Zeggelaar, in-law sisters Tina Wamsteeker and Theresa Karsten.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Nick Wamsteeker, her parents Art and Wilma van Zeggelaar, her brothers Walter, Henry (Rita) and Gerrit van Zeggelaar, in-law brother Nick Brandhorst, her in-law parents Peter and Sjaan Wamsteeker and numerous in-law brothers and sisters.
Gerda was born August 15, 1930 in Barneveld, The Netherlands. With her family, she immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in the Iron Springs area of southern Alberta. Gerda and Nick were married in 1953 and together raised their family on an acreage near Diamond City and developed a poultry farm. In addition to the farm work, Gerda drove school bus, took care of the household, and kept a large garden and huge beautiful yard.
In her retirement years, Gerda volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Bibles for Missions Thrift Store. She had the privilege to travel widely with her husband Nick, and enjoyed music, knitting and crocheting.
The family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to the staff of Good Samaritan Society Park Meadows Village where Gerda lived for the last 4 1/2 years.
A private family service will be held on June 28, 2024, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPEL.
