IDA “EDIE” YOUNG December 19, 1942 June 26, 2024
Mom/Gramma/Nana

Born Ida Jean Neumann December 19, 1942- adopted nickname of Speedy Edie in school from her days playing ball. This name was very appropriate as mom was full tilt on whatever passion she was pursuing.
She married Dad in 1961 on his 22nd birthday so he would never forget their anniversary. They would’ve been celebrating 63 years of marriage on June 30, 2024. Together they loved to travel, mostly to warm destinations, Florida was a favourite. She was so excited to finally experience a rocket launch in person this year on the beach surrounded by family, it had been a lifelong bucket list item and was definitely memorable.
Her interests were diverse and abundant ranging from gardening, cooking, baking, pickling, music, sewing, swimming, camping, bird watching and helping anyone in need. Her Yorkshire pudding, zucchini bread and borscht were legendary.
Mom was very generous with her time as well as with the thoughtful happy mailings she would send for every special occasion or just because. She was actively involved in the figure skating club in Surrey as well as when we first moved to Medicine Hat, sewing all of our costumes without hesitation.
She was driven with a passion of service – she loved to help people as best she could. She taught at hairdressing school in the early days, to volunteering as a brownie leader, and providing a welcoming place to stay for international students travelling through town with the group “Up with People”. Mom took solace in comforting people at times of grief- her kindness and compassion was a light in times of darkness.
More recently mom cherished the quieter times and simply spending time with her family. Many memories of looking for seashells, angels and fairies, or just chilling will fill our hearts as we take comfort that she is finally able to rest in peace.

Forever in our hearts xxoo
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Les Young; daughters, Valerie (Scott) Warren and Laura (Derek) Melnick; grandchildren, Jenna (Pablo), Ciara (Malyk), Autumn and John; brother, Chuck Neumann; as well as extended family and friends near and far. She was predeceased by her parents, brother and sister.

No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edie’s memory may be made to ShelterBox Canada or to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be made at www.gracememorial.com. Arrangements are made by

I am so sad to hear this, we definitely enjoyed having her and les every Friday night at trukkers for dinner. She would always ask about my week, and how it was going. And she would get more excited about my vacations then I did. She was a beautiful soul
