NILSSON Kenneth Norman “Norm” Nilsson, devoted and loving husband of Audrey (Jensen) Nilsson of Calgary, Alberta passed away after a short battle with cancer, on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the age of 89.
Norm will be deeply missed by his sons Kavin (Joan) Nilsson of Calgary, AB and Regan (Melanie) Nilsson of Red Deer, AB. He will be affectionately remembered by his grandchildren Ryan Nilsson, Andrea Nilsson, Eli Nilsson, Michael (Emily) Nilsson and Megan (MacKenzie) Ross, as well as his great grandchildren Loralei Nilsson, Kaeden, Brynnley and Lucy-Mae Nilsson, Zoey Nilsson and Jensen Ross.
Norm was predeceased by his loving wife Audrey (Jensen) Nilsson on July 14, 2024, his parents Beatrice (Selk) and Linden Nilsson, older brothers Donald “Don” and Judy (Proctor) Nilsson, and Eldred “Hank” Nilsson, and his sisters Pauline Nilsson and Louise (Nilsson) Bowden, as well as his great-granddaughter Hailey Nilsson.
Norm was born on July 14, 1935 in Lethbridge, Alberta to Beatrice and Linden Nilsson. Norm was the third son but the fifth child born in the family. Norm proved to be a rambunctious youngster who enjoyed playing hockey, he enjoyed a good practical joke, became a pretty good boxer, and enjoyed a game of billiards in his younger years, as wells as golf, and travel throughout Canada, Hawaii, western US, and Barbados with Audrey throughout the years.
Norm eventually met and took a shine to Miss Audrey Jensen in the neighboring town of Raymond, Alberta. After a brief courtship, where he enjoyed attending local football events to watch Audrey as a cheerleader, Friday night dances and the occasional movie night. They soon became inseparable and were married on August 12, 1954 in Cardston, Alberta. On August 12th of this month, they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary! Son, Kavin Kenneth was born September 26, 1955, and Regan William soon followed on June 2, 1960.
Norm attended night school completing his degree in Business, and became a savvy independent business man who was strong willed, determined and driven. He made friends wherever he went and was loved by all, treating friends and colleagues with dignity and respect, he knew how to motivate people. Norm worked in the retail sector in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario, taking job opportunities over the years as he advanced in seniority, finally settling in Red Deer, Alberta. His moto being: “It takes your best to make dreams come true.”
Norm and Audrey retired to the United States, in Surprise, Arizona, finally ending up in St. George, Utah. During their summers, they travelled back to enjoy their little cottage at Glennifer Lake, Alberta, as well as family and longtime friends. In September 2021 they moved permanently back to Calgary, Alberta to be closer to loved ones.
Norm passed away in the care of the Foothills Country Hospice Society of Okotoks, Alberta and the family would sincerely like to thank the staff for their compassionate care of Norm.
Friends may meet the family on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 10:15 to 10:50 am prior to the service at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stirling Chapel, 413 3rd St, Stirling, Alberta. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery, in Raymond, Alberta.
